A Solution Built Into the Glass
In Norrköping, Sweden, a striking new landmark building has taken shape at the heart of Inre Hamnen, the city’s largest urban regeneration project in modern times. Positioned at the northern foot of Varvsbron, directly alongside Motala Ström, the building sits at the point where the waterfront promenade, the city’s southern districts and the park towards Johannisborg all converge.
Designed by Nyréns Arkitektkontor, the building slopes dramatically from its highest point down to street level, like a stepped hillside facing the water. The rooftop functions as a public sun terrace with sweeping views across the water towards the city’s historic skyline, while the ground floor is planned to house a restaurant serving both locals and visitors to the district.
With glazing on all sides and panoramic views of the maritime surroundings to preserve, finding a shading solution that would not compromise the outlook or the facade was central to the brief. MicroShade® was integrated directly into the glazing, keeping interior temperatures comfortable throughout the year while ensuring every sightline across Inre Hamnen remains completely unobstructed. No blinds, no louvres and nothing standing between the occupants and one of Norrköping’s most remarkable new vistas.

Yes. The product integrates into standard double or triple glazed units and is suitable for both new construction and retrofit projects. No mechanical systems, no wiring and no structural modifications are required.
There is no impact on the building exterior and no additional trades are needed beyond the glazing contractor already on the project.
The microstructure film sits protected inside the glazing cavity and is almost imperceptible to the naked eye, though the join between sheets is visible on close inspection. From the outside the facade looks clean and as designed.
From the inside the view out remains clear and unobstructed at all times. No tint, no visible pattern and no reduction in the quality of the outlook.
