ATP – Hillerød

A sustainable campus expansion for one of Denmark’s largest pension funds, certified DGNB Gold and built extensively in timber. Shading integrated into the glazing keeps 1,300 employees comfortable and connected to the outdoor garden spaces that define the campus. No compromise on transparency, daylight or architectural quality.

Where Sustainability Meets the Everyday Work Experience

When ATP set out to expand their headquarters at Kongens Vænge in Hillerød, sustainability and the quality of the working environment were at the heart of the project from the outset. The expansion adds five new timber pavilions to the existing courtyard, creating approximately 2,500 m2 of new space alongside a 4,000 m2 transformation of existing areas. The result is a campus that brings 1,300 employees closer together through varied workspaces, stronger connections between departments and a seamless relationship between indoor and outdoor environments.

AI Arkitekter & Ingeniører served as total consultant on the project, with BGB A/S as main contractor. Sustainability was central to every decision, and the project is certified DGNB Gold, with timber used extensively in load-bearing structures, facades, floors and roofing, and existing materials reused throughout the landscaped garden spaces.

For a building designed to attract and retain talent, the indoor environment matters as much as the architecture. MicroShade was chosen as the solar shading solution for the facades, ensuring optimal room temperatures even in sun-exposed conditions, while maintaining plenty of natural daylight throughout the day. A clear, unobstructed view to the outdoor garden spaces is preserved at all times, keeping employees connected to the surroundings that make the campus distinctive.

The ATP headquarters demonstrates how solar shading can be an integrated part of a broader sustainable ambition, contributing to both occupant comfort and reduced energy consumption without compromise on transparency or architectural quality.
